Say hello to Estrid, my Order Cleric/Divine Soul Sorcerer! Swipe for her design shot and her original look!

Some of you may remember a character I occasionally posted about a LONG time ago (like 2020) that I was playing for a campaign called Duskfall. It want meant to be a prequel to Morning Ashes but it ended up falling apart. I'm happy to say that we've picked up the campaign again!! Our first session was last week, and I'm already bubbling with some new drawing ideas for her

For round 2, I've made some major changes to the original Estrid (swipe to the end to see what Estrid used to look like)
Some of those changes include:
🔸Age: 20 ➡️ 42 years old
🔸 Class: Grave Cleric ➡️ Order Cleric/Divine Soul Sorcerer Multiclass
🔸History: she will be a direct ancestor of Pyre (~400 years into the past) instead of a complete offshoot character
🔸 Bit of a change in backstory and motivations
🔸 and some other secrets along the way 😉 I have big plans for her, campaign events willing! Even the DM has no idea what's brewing 👀

I am certainly not tabling Morning Ashes content, but I am excited to be exploring Duskfall again with Estrid. I really felt like she was a really interesting character so I'm so happy at the opportunity to play her!

One last thing before I go!! I've been posting about this on my stories but keep an eye out for some information in my stories about a cool project geared towards artists I'll be rolling out in June ✨

Sorry it's been a little quiet--new semester has me in mega prep mode. One course I'm teaching is shortened by 2 weeks, but the test date is the same as every year, so I've had to put a LOT of work into that to make it work! I have a few doodles ready on the back burner to start pitching y'all's way 👏

One of the more interesting things I've been able to do in the 5 years since the start of the Morning Ashes campaign is work both forward and backward with Pyre's lineage. With the conclusion of Morning Ashes and the beginning of Duskfall, I'm excited to jump back 400 years and play one of Pyre's oldest ancestors, Estrid!

But that's not who this doodle is.

This doodle is a leap forward into Pyre's descendant's time--one who is a little more keen into knowing where she came from (and I don't mean just Pyre). I haven't quite pinned down a name yet for her, but "Selene" seems to be the most fitting right now. We'll see how that changes! I don't foresee this character being anything more than a one-shot character at some point, but...y'never know!

I'm now almost nearly convinced to play all my characters from the same bloodline, because for some reason that seems super interesting to me. The DM and I have already worked it out to the OG ancestor (even beyond Estrid) that has a very interesting connection to our favorite deity 🐺

Fwew, hard to believe we've just about had 5 years of Pyre--it was around this time of the year I was just starting to really solidify her character. Back then, she was built to be an angsty meme machine, but I'm really happy she ended up evolving far past her original intent.
It feels weird to say it, considering it's a character that I play, but I'm...strangely proud of her? She's come a very long way in the time I've played her, with respective character design changes to boot. I wanted to highlight those changes as she shifted into her final level--it was so unintentional that she shifted from a red to a blue color palette, but sometimes happy little coincidences like that give DnD that spice!

With the campaign wrapping up in a few more sessions, I hope to post some more current campaign doodles... but that comic has been calling me, don't you think I've forgotten 😤

Anyway, Happy New Year y'all! 🎉 I hope I can reclaim some of my life from work so I can post more again 😔 In my 7 years, I don't think I've ever been so drained from teaching to the point where I'm nearly nonfunctional during my breaks. It's been rough y'all

I think if you asked at the start of the campaign (almost 5 yrs ago) if I would want something like this, my reaction would've been "oh hell no" 😂 and to be fair, I probably would've kept it that way to the end of the campaign, but we had a lot more interaction with a certain NPC than I expected. Then one visit he popped the question and it was just "y'know what, sure!" Well....I was sure. Pyre was a little less immediately accepting of the proposal haha but she came around soon enough

Anyway, today's session was the small in-game ceremony. To celebrate, I put together a small compilation of both old and never-before-posted doodles of the newlyweds... including a sketch of a doodle I *hope* to get around to someday! Maybe I'll eventually get around to doing a doodle from the actual ceremony too

It's hard to believe we're finally nearing the end of our almost 5 year campaign 🥲 Since the very beginning of it, the Wanderers have had the occasional "side mission" relating to certain children--all of interest to various BBEGs. The Wanderers attempted many a rescue mission (even telepathically guiding one of the kids through their own), rounding them up, and trying to keep them safe while we figured out exactly what (or who) they were. Now as we are staring down the final BBEG, and beginning to realize just what kind of power these children hold, the Wanderers may very well have to make a decision on their fate. Pyre, of course, will do anything to make sure they walk out of this alive--and more importantly, themselves

But that's only half of this doodle series! When developing Fern and Fenix/their family, we only knew about two of the Morning Ashes children. As we met the rest, I noticed some similarities between their family/the children and jokingly mentioned it to the DM. He just smiled and said it's not necessarily a bad thing if they were so similar...which got me thinking more about it. It's no secret that Fern/Fenix's campaign takes place 20 years after Morning Ashes, so assuming Pyre is alive and well by then, I feel like the similarities would certainly not be lost on her

Part two of the twins' portrait series! These two were a nice little exercise in rendering that I don't give myself enough. I used to love rendering, but since my style started to become more comic-like and move away from realism some years ago (before I started posting), it's hard to merge the two sometimes. It's fun to still try!

And, just like with Fenix, some Fern facts!
🪴 starting campaign as a horizon walker ranger
🪴 started manifesting strange abilities to pop in and out of the material plane when she was around 8-10, and has been both fascinated and terrified of them ever since. She just wishes her parents could tell her what they mean. She can't help but get the sense they aren't telling her something. Maybe a family friend could be more helpful....
🪴 tended to get in a lot of fights as a child, not necessarily to prove herself but to protect anyone she thought was being mistreated/bullied. She really does mean well, but years of practice sometimes leaves her....restless.
🪴 is actually proficient in playing the guitar, as she has certainly practiced it plenty to impress a certain changling drow. Unfortunately she can't bring it with her on her travels, as she doesn't want it broken. Still, she finds herself occasionally strumming the air during downtime...just out of habit
🪴 "Fern" is short for "Ferniand", a once-forgotten family name passed on once more 🙂

Trying to dust off the ol' doodle skills. Part one of a two part twins-portrait series. Naturally, being the older twin, we're starting with Fenix! For the uninitiated, Fenix and Fern are a duo that hopefully will succeed Pyre & the Wanderers in an epilogue campaign some irl years from now. But after we finish Morning Ashes, we'll be breaking into Duskfall (a prequel campaign) so it'll be a hot minute before we see the twins ✨

But hey, some Fenix facts!
🔥 starting campaign as a wildfire druid
🔥 struggling with the weight of assumed (keyword: assumed) expectations and responsibilities to his family, especially for his sister, Fern
🔥 isn't necessarily bashful-shy, but as introverted as you can get. If he could mold into the walls to avoid conversation, he would. Hell, maybe he'll figure out a spell to do that
🔥 innate immunity to flirtations 🖤💜🤍 (cue "why, what's up there?" meme)
🔥 can't work a weapon worth his life, and believe him, he's tried. So hard.
